What happens when you’ve done everything “right” in your career, but still feel like there’s something wrong?
My client, Dionna Rivers, an MBA grad with a high-performing job at a major bank, found herself at a crossroads. Her career looked so impressive on paper, but there’s something missing and she’s having questions that no degree or job title could answer. “Why didn’t this feel fulfilling? What was I really meant to do?”
In this powerful career clarity story, Dionna shares how a season of intentional prayer, honest reflection, and guided coaching led her away from confusion and toward a calling she never expected – ghostwriting.
If you’ve ever wondered if your career could reflect more of who you really are, this story is your invitation to believe that it can.
Meet Dionna Rivers, she’d earned her MBA, secured a job in a competitive rotational program at a leading bank, and was working closely with a commercialization team inside a startup division.
To most, it looked like a dream start.
But beneath the surface, she felt disconnected. “I felt like I understood the path I was supposed to take,” she said, “but I hadn’t arrived at the peace I expected to feel. Something was off, and I couldn’t figure it out – even after reading every book I could find.”
Despite having access to nearly every career resource available, Dionna found herself stuck in a cycle of overthink and under-fulfillment. That’s when she decided to search ‘Christian career coaching’ in Google and joined our coaching program.
But what unfolded next wasn’t a straight line, but a winding, Spirit-led journey of uncovering gifts Dionna had long overlooked. It was a process of peeling back the layers of what she thought her career should look like and allowing God to reshape her view of what it could be.
Through that process, ghostwriting – something she had never seriously considered – rose to the surface in a way that made everything click.
Dionna didn’t wake up one day and decided she’d be a ghostwriter. In fact, she resisted it for a long time. Writing had always been part of her life – journaling, storytelling, helping others organize their thoughts, but it was never something she considered a career.
“I think the limiting belief I had was, this is just a hobby,” she said. “It’s not something people actually pay for. No one ever told me I should be a writer, so I assumed I shouldn’t be.”
But with guidance, prayer, and intentional action, that mindset began to shift. Here’s how she got there:
Even with a solid job and impressive credentials, Dionna felt a disconnect she couldn’t shake. Instead of brushing it off, she got honest about the discomfort and recognized it as a sign. That willingness to confront the tension became the first step toward clarity.
During a 21-day period of prayer and fasting, Dionna asked for more than just a new job—she prayed for direction and peace. It wasn’t about striving harder but surrendering more deeply. That shift led her to search for Christian career coaching, something she’d never thought to explore before.
Through reflection and coaching, Dionna noticed a clear thread: she always gravitated toward writing. From journaling to helping others clarify their words, writing wasn’t just something she liked – it was part of how she was wired. Seeing it framed as a strength rather than a side hobby was a game-changer.
Instead of overthinking alone, she started having real conversations with people in different industries. Some left her feeling more confused, but even those helped her narrow down what didn’t fit. The process brought clarity through contrast, not perfection.
Dionna searched beyond the obvious, looking up roles like “content writer” and “copywriter” but none quite captured what she envisioned. After brainstorming more alternatives (with a little help from ChatGPT), she stumbled upon “ghostwriter” – and it immediately felt right. That one word reframed everything.
Once she claimed the title “ghostwriter,” doors started opening: support from friends, encouragement from her parents, even organic leads. The harmony between her passion and God’s prompting gave her confidence to move forward. It no longer felt like guesswork – it felt aligned.
